Corridors of Hope stay in Katete extended

–Corridors of Hope Chief of Party Joseph Kamanga says his organization has adopted an integrated and holistic approach towards helping sex workers in Katete district.

Mr. Kamanga said there is need to uplift the living stands of sex workers in the country if the scourge is to be reduced or complicated eradicated.

Speaking this morning when he paid a courtesy call on Katete District Commissioner Peter Kaisa, Mr. Kamanga said there was need for stakeholders to empower women in sex trade in order for them to stop being dependant on the trade to earn a living.

He explained that in some districts where his organization is working some sex workers have formed clusters where they save money and lend to each other as start-up capital for other business ventures.

He further said in due course his organization will start empowering the sex workers with small finances that can elevate them and enable them to access micro finances.

Mr. Kamanga stated that his organization working together with the Katete District Medical office would like to open its center to be used as an ART center.

He said his organization wishes to provide health care support to sex workers in a manner that is convenient to its targeted population.

Mr. Kamanga added that in Katete district Corridors of Hope will in the next one year of their program target sex workers and their clients.

He further explained that corridors of Hope are operating in ten districts in Zambia mainly in the border districts.

And Katete District Commissioner Colonel Peter Kaisa thanked the organization for the help it had continued rendering to the communities.


The district Commissioner noted that the challenges of HIV/AIDS affects everyone and therefore deserves concerted effort from all stakeholders in the country.
