Chibombo records peaceful campaigns

Chibombo, September 9, 2014 , ZANIS–Chibombo District Electoral Officer Josephine Phiri has described the ongoing local government by-election campaigns in Chilo-chabalenje ward in Chibombo district as peaceful. 

 

Ms Phiri, who is also Chibombo District Council Secretary, told ZANIS in an interview today that so far there has not been any report of violence since the campaigns began in the ward.

 

She however reminded the contesting political parties that the campaigns are coming to an end on Wednesday ahead of the polls on Thursday, September 11.

 

Four candidates are contesting the local government seat which fell vacant following the expulsion of Evelo Chilala from the United Party for National Development (UPND).

 

Evelo Chilala is now re-contesting the seat on the Patriotic Front (PF) ticket.

 

Others are Dickson Chilayi of the Movement for Multi-Party Democracy (MMD), Justin Chunga of the United National Independence Party (UNIP) and Clement Ng’andu who is contesting on the United Party for National Development (UPND) ticket.
