A LUSAKA woman told the Local court how her husband set police officers on her accusing her of being a thief.
He also denied that Agnes. Mwanza, 25, of  Ngombe Township was his wife but a mere girlfriend.
The visibly angry Mwanza, narrated to the Chelstone Local Court that her husband, Francis Muzale, 29, instructed police officers to beat her up as punishment for allegedly stealing his household property.

“I was severely beaten by police officers who even poured cold water on me,” Mwanza said.
Worse still, Muzale even called Mwanza’s mother from the village and beat Mwanza in front of her mother, to show that he did not want Muzale anymore.
This was heard before Senior Court Magistrate Bertha Zulu in a case in which she sued Muzale also of N’gombe Township for marriage reconciliation. The duo got married in 2001 and has three children together.

Mwanza further told the court that she fears for her life as Muzale has on several occasions threatened to stab her with a knife every time he beats her.
She said efforts to resolve their endless marital problems by both families failed.
But Muzale who worships at Flying Angel Church complained to the court that Mwanza has failed to fulfill her motherly duties.
“Our first born child is the one who prepares meals for me and cleans the house. I also wash my clothes as if I’m not married. This is why I called her mother so that she can counsel her,” he said.

Muzale also complained to the court that his wife does not respect him and that she is a drunkard who spends most of her time in bars.
“She has been arrested on several occasions for loitering after her many drinking sprees,” he said.
He lamented that Mwanza has the habit of making their youngest child sleep in between them just to avoid having sex.
Muzale also pleaded with the court to have their marriage dissolved but appealed to have custody of their children.
However, the court dismissed the claim because the duo refused to reconcile. The couple was advised that either parties could sue for divorce.
