THE Ndola High Court has sentenced a 28-year-old cleaner of Ndola Central Hospital to death by hanging for murdering a security guard.
Gift Miti was part of a group of four that attacked two security guards at Luanshya Girls Secondary School on January 28 this year.

The four beat up Tresford Chaluka and Alfred Mubanga, rendering Mr Chaluka unconscious before he died two days later at Roan General Hospital.
Miti, of house number 363, Lubuto West in Ndola, was arrested along with John Banda of house number 434, Mikonfya Township, Maxwell Chilufya of house number 21, Roan Township in Luanshya and Julius Kafula of unknown address.

Kafula pleaded not guilty to the charge and was acquitted.
The three had earlier appeared before Ndola magistrate Jane Kabuka charged with two accounts of aggravated robbery and murder.
Other facts before the court were that the three also stole nine cases of sugar, a public address system, 54 pockets of milk, one desk top computer, one monitor and a stereo with two speakers all valued at K18,055 from the school.

Chilufya and Banda were acquitted by Ms Kabuka on grounds that no evidence was given to support the claims that they were involved in the stealing and murder of the security guard.
Miti was, however, found guilty on both charges because the other guard who survived the attack identified him as the person who was wielding iron bars and tied him up.
