Headman Mucheleka  appeals for a police post in his chiefdom

 

Luwingu, September 6th, 2014, ZANIS —- A traditional ruler in Luwingu District has advised government to construct a police post to curb the increased crime related activities in his area.

 

Village headman Mucheleka says that there is an urgent need for a police post in his area to contend the increased stock thefts, aggravated robberies, arsons and rape in the area.

 

He said currently his subjects have nowhere to report crime as the nearest police station is found in the district center about 60km.

 

 

The traditional ruler said government should consider decentralizing police operation to far flung areas as it has done with education, agriculture and health services.

 

 

ZANIS reports that the headman was speaking in an interview at his palace today.

 

He added that although he was grateful that his subjects were now accessing education ,  health service and agriculture extension services, police service access was still a challenge there.

 

He said there was need for the government to provide the community with a police posts because crime is increasing on daily bases and people have nowhere to report to because the police station is found 60km away.

 

 

The 83 year old village headman Mucheleka said goats, chicken and dogs have been stolen by unknown people forcing the community to ask government to construct a police post and send police officer to the area.

 

 

Village Mucheleka,  who is also father to Lubansenshi member of parliament Patrick Mucheleka,  said he was happy with the pace of development in his area by government adding that there were now four primary schools namely Mucheleka, Masambula, Laurent Chita and Masonde and one health centre and two health posts and six churches.

 

Other commercial activities include 15 shops , a development the traditional ruler said has attracted  a number of crime activities in the area.

 

He appealed to the ministry of home affairs to construct police station in all the areas where there are rural health centers such as Shimumbi, Tungati, Chabula, Katuta and health posts where government has already constructed health posts because these are the central places which are always visited by the community.

 

 

The village headman said that construction of posts in remote parts of the districts country wide will an opportunity for unemployed youth to be trained as police officers and deployed in these would be created police posts.

 

 

He lamented that Zambia will be celebrating its 50 years with one station in luwingu district left by the colonial masters the thing he described as very bad. He commended government of doing fine in areas of education, health and agriculture.

 

 

The traditional also appealed to district aids task force to extend the HIV/Aids sensitization in his area in order to combat the spread of HIV/Aids and other sexual transmitted diseases.
