COSAFA cup not this year- Patel
Lusaka, September 3rd,2014, ZANIS–The Council of Southern African Football Associations (COSAFA) cup will not take place this year.
This was after COSAFA’s request to formally sought approval of the South African Football Association (SAFA) for the tournament to be staged in South African at no cost to failed.
COSAFA was forced to cancel the event after SAFA cited the non-availability of dates in November/December from the Premier soccer league (PSL).
COSAFA President Suketu Patel has since described the development as a disappointing.
ZANIS Sports reports that Patel charged that that the COSAFA Cup plays a crucial role in helping develop the national teams of member associations.
He said this year’s event would have been of huge benefit for member associations as they prepare for qualifiers for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.
Patel further urged member associations to work harder and look forward towards the hosting and sponsorship of the 2015 tournament.
