The Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) relief food distributing agent in Mkushi district has underscored the importance of orienting satellite committees about the operations of the organization.

Reformed Church of Zambia (RCZ) DMMU distribution coordinator Cephaus Kaunda told ZANIS today  that there was need for satellite committees to understand the guidelines for the relief food.

He said that the appeal was appropriate with the 80 per cent Food for Work mode of relief food which satellite committees were currently monitoring and managing.

He pointed out that satellite committees that were not oriented about DMMU relief food guidelines posed a threat to the humanitarian exercise as transparency could be compromised.

Mr Kaunda maintained that properly oriented satellite committees would ensure that ‘Food for project’ aspect is what is conducted and managed to the satisfaction of the national DMMU under the office of the Vice President.

He disclosed that his organisation had successfully completed the distribution of 107.87 metric tonnes of relief maize to eleven wards in Mkushi district.

He however expressed hope that relevant authorities in DMMU would scale up efforts  in helping to ease the challenges involving transportation and prompt payment towards the RCZ’s distribution operations.

Mkushi District was allocated 2,157 bags of 50 kilo grams of white maize in the last DMMU allocation five months ago.
