LWSCA pledges piped water supply for Chainda by December

Lusaka.30th August ZANIS—Lusaka Water and Sewerage Company (LWSC) Says its 3.2million pipe installation project in Chainda Compound is expected to be completed before December this year.

LWSC Marketing and Public Relations Manager Topsy Sikalinda said the works are currently going on smoothly and that 10 kilometers of new water network will be installed with close to five hundred houses being connected.

Mr. Sikalinda said the water utility company which is receiving support from Water and Sanitation for Urban poor (WSUP) is also expected to put up water kiosk in the area.

He revealed that the project which commenced in January this year will benefit not less than 20 thousand people in Chainda compound adding that Bauleni compound will be next in line for a similar project.

The Utility company spokesperson said this in an interview with ZANIS in a telephone interview today.

For sometime now residents of Bauleni and Chainda compounds and the nearby areas have been dogged by critical shortage of water which has threatened the livelihoods in the area with disease outbreaks.

And Mr Sikalinda has praised the area Member of Parliament Nkandu Luo and councilor Given Lwenshi for role they have played from the time the project commenced.

Mr Sikalinda said the duo has also been instrumental in ensuring the community’s support over the anticipated successful completion of the project.
