Traditional Leader call early distribution of inputs by Government

Kawambwa, August 28th , 2014, ZANIS —   A Traditional Leader in Luapula Province has called on government to this year consider delivering inputs to Farmers in Kawambwa District before the onset of the rains.

Chief Chama of the Chishinga people in Kawambwa District says rains in the area usually commence by mid-August.

He said because of the heavy rains usually experienced in the District, it becomes a challenge to deliver inputs under the Farmer Inputs Support Programme (FISP) to the beneficiaries.

The traditional leader made the call when Kawambwa District Commissioner, Ivo Mpasa and Heads of Government Departments paid a courtesy call on him at his Mulunda palace yesterday.

He also appealed to Government to ensure that the right kinds of inputs such Fertiliser and Seeds are delivered.

And responding to the traditional leader’s concerns, Kawambwa District Agricultural Co-ordinator (DACO), Davies Mwansasu said there are plans underway to ensure that delivery of inputs are done before rains commence.

Mr. Mwansasu said the other plan is to first start the delivery of the inputs in far flung areas and end with areas which are nearer.

He advised Farmers to take advantage of the fact that the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) has started paying those who sold Maize to it by paying for the various inputs that they require.

The Kawambwa DACO also informed the Chief that area has so far received over 19,000 by 50 Kilograms of D-Compound Fertiliser, adding that the area is expecting to receive Urea Fertiliser and seeds very soon.
