Over 130 inmates have been moved from Kasama’s Milima state prison to the newly constructed Luwingu Prison.

The transfer of the prisoners was conducted yesterday by a joint team of officers from Zambia Prisons Service, Army and police.

The exercise comes as part of preparation for the commissioning of Luwingu Prison slated for this Friday.

Meanwhile, Zambia Prisons Service Director of Projects, Senior Assistant Commissioner John Yumbe has since described the exercise code named ‘Operation Lwansase’ as successful.

And Luwingu District Commissioner Mambwe Katontoka has hailed the construction of a prison in the area.

Ms Katontoka said the opening of Luwingu Prison will give inmates a chance to live under humane conditions.
