Uganda National Motocross team captain Arthur Blick Jr is optimistic his charges will perform well in the FIM-Africa Motocross championship in Zambia on the weekend of August 30-31 in Mindolo Kitwe Zambia.

Blick told the New Vision at the National Council of Sports (NCS) on Tuesday before the team was officially flagged off by NCS Secretary Jasper Aligawesa.

Uganda is taking a team of 17 riders to the event that has attracted seven African nationals that include Mozambique, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Kenya, Uganda and hosts Zambia.

“We don’t have money but we have managed to send a strong team that will give us results. Seventeen riders is a good number and we will give our best,” Blick stated.

Meanwhile city tyres have boosted the team with a sh3m cash package. The money was handed over to the Federation of Motorsport Clubs of Uganda president Jack Wavamuno.

Uganda won the title in 2012 but surrendered it to South Africa last year as they finished fourth behind South Africa, Zimbabwe and Zambia that were first, second and third respectively.

Earlier on the team was boosted by rider Maxime Van Pee’s father who offered transport for all the bikes to Zambia.
