The Zambia Body Building and Fitness Federation (ZBBFF) says it will soon embark on a project of renovating and expanding the already existing gymnasiums in the country.

ZBBFF President Danny Mkandawire disclosed that the project will start with Mansa, Chipata and Kasama before being scaled up to other parts of the country.

Mkandawire told ZANIS Sports in a telephone interview in Lusaka today that once the expansion project is done, the federation will then start constructing new gymnasiums.

He said the project is aimed at responding to the rising interest of young men and women wanting to start competing in body building and fitness.

And Mkandawire has expressed worry with the mushrooming of uncertified gymnasiums in the country.

He said the mushrooming gymnasiums pose health risks to people as most of the facilities lack the standardised equipment, qualified trainers and instructors.

He however said his federation has since embarked on a project of training body building and fitness instructors in a bid to bring professionalism to the sport.
