Inmates given shot in the arm in Mkushi District

Mkushi, August 17th, 2014,ZANIS — Government has saluted the business sector in Mkushi District for coming to the aid of prison inmates at Mkushi prison, via donations of assorted items.

 

Mkushi District Commissioner, Luka Mwamba commended local business enterprise, Sunshine super market for donating detergents and food stuffs to prison inmates on Sunday.

 

Mr Mwamba noted that it was gratifying to learn that some elements of the business community had seen the need to cushion the plight of prisoners through donations.

 

He stressed that Government valued every citizen, adding that assistance for inmates was welcome from all stakeholders.

 

ZANIS reports that the District Commissioner said this at the donation of several groceries and other essentials to in-mates by the supermarket management.

 

He called on all sectors of society in the District to emulate Sunshine supermarket’s gesture, saying that such a move would have impact positively on inmates as well as the prison service.

 

And Sunshine supermarket proprietor Frank Mwabei disclosed that the motive for the donation arose from compassion for the needy.

Mr Mwabei pledged that his enterprise would make more charitable gestures towards to cushioning the plight of prisoners.

 

And receiving the donation, Mkushi Prison Officer in Charge, Christopher Chiluba described the development as beneficial to the 146 inmates at the reformatory institution.
