Government  says it is committed to continue supporting the operations of the Zambia Red Cross Society.

Kasama district commissioner Kalanga Bwalya said this today when he opened a planning meeting for the Red Cross Society  held at Wamulungwe Lodge in Kasama.

Mr. Bwalya added that because of the importance of its activities government has incorporated the Red Cross in its structures up to the grass root level.

Mr. Bwalya assured of continued government support in ensuring that the Red Cross pursues its noble cause of providing first aid to victims of war and disasters.

He advised the society to devise an effective monitoring tool to ensure transparency and accountability in the relief organization.

He said planners had a duty to take into account the happenings in other parts of the world because the same challenges could be faced locally.

He appealed to members of the organization to maintain discipline and observe zero tolerance towards malpractices.

The planning meeting has drawn participants from Northern and Muchinga provinces.
