Kapiri FRA collects over 110,000 bags 

Kapiri Mposhi, August 12, 2014,ZANIS – The Food Reserve Agency (FRA) in Kapiri Mposhi district has so far collected over 110,000 by 50 kilogram bags of white maize from small scale farmers this marketing season.

This is out of the 153,000 by 50kg bags of maize that the FRA targets to buy from the farmers in the district at a total cost of K 7,695,030 in the 2014 crop marketing season.

The agency has since paid out K2 million to some farmers who have supplied the commodity as at Friday last week.

District Agriculture Coordinator, Benny Tembo who confirmed the development to ZANIS today said more farmers were expected to be paid their money this week.

Mr. Tembo said 13,300 by 50kg bags of maize have already been transported from the outlying satellite depots to the main FRA depot for storage.

He said the crop marketing season was going on smoothly in the district adding that the FRA will manage to purchase the targeted number of bags of maize within the stipulated time.

 The FRA has opened 21 out of 29 satellite depots in Kapiri Mposhi to buy maize from the farmers this year.
