Shoprite Stores in Luanshya has embarked on a massive social cooperate responsibility programme dubbed “Community Network” aimed at making an everyday change in the communities through donations of assorted food items to nominated community projects in the district.

Branch Manager, Ronald Changaya, said the donations would be made on monthly bases to identified projects which would be nominated by members of the public through filling in entry forms available in all outlets, to be scrutinized by management to ensure the project was a non-profit organisation.

Mr Changaya was speaking when he donated assorted food items, including mealie meal, cooking oil, fruits, and toiletries among others valued at K600 to Harold Children’s home in Luanshya’s Walale Township, a commitment he noted that the shop was meeting every month.

Receiving the donation, Harold Children’s home pastor in charge, Peter Phiri, thanked Shoprite for the continued support rendered to the institution.

Pastor Phiri Said the home was faced with numerous challenges which included limited accommodation, beddings and food among other basic amenities.

He said the home, which was established over 15 years ago, accommodates a total of 19 children with 15 of them aged between five and ten years and four others over the age of sixteen.

He said the home also runs a community school which was established six years ago and   benefiting over 700 children.
