CSPRs support Mkushi CDF probe

Mkushi,  Aug 5, 2014, ZANIS—Civil Society for Poverty Reduction(CSPR) Members in Mkushi district have called for thorough investigations into the CDF (Constituency Development Fund) projects and awarding of tenders  for contracts.

CSPR Member Gershom Musonda told ZANIS in Mkushi today that the Civil Society was concerned about alleged mismanagement and misappropriation of CDF funds.

Mr. Musonda supported recent calls for investigations regarding CDF matters by Mkushi North Member of Parliament (MP) Ingrid Mpande saying that there was need for investigative wings to follow up the matter.

He charged that his organization suspected that some senior officers at the Mkushi district council were allegedly misappropriating  CDF and awarding tenders for  contracts in an irregular manner.

He said the CSPR believed that the situation pertaining to CDF monies was rife with anomalies that ranged from the documentation of fake suppliers to the use of unqualified building contractors.

Mr. Musonda cited the construction of the bridge across Chibefwe stream as well as the on going construction of the public toilet at the show grounds charging that the awarding of tenders for these projects attracted suspicion.

He also urged District Commissioner (DC) Luka Mwamba as well as the area MP to come up with multi sector committees comprising the civil society, the church, traditional and governmental authorities for purposes of overseeing the awarding of contracts for CDF projects.
