THE Forestry Department in Chipata District has confiscated the 3, 864 logs of Mukula tree, which it impounded from a Chinese last week.

This follows failure by the Chinese man, only identified as Thom, to submit authority documents to the department, which he used to procure the logs.

Acting Eastern Province principal forestry officer, Sylvester Siame confirmed in Chipata that the department could not trace the man and that his phones were off.

He said that according to information gathered so far, Thom was believed to be in Mozambique.

“The department has received a report that some people want to temper with the timber at a named farm along Magwero road,” he said.

He said that the Forestry Department would move the logs from the farm to the district offices since they could not be auctioned.
