Clive Chirwa found with a case to answer

The Lusaka Magistrate Court has found Professor Clive Chirwa with a case to answer, for failing to declare interest and abuse of authority of office.

Professor Chirwa is alleged to have recommended that his company, Clavel Incorporated Limited be engaged to train key Zambia Railways Limited – ZRL staff.

He is also alleged to have been paying 72-thousznd kwacha for his accommodation at Falls Way Apartments, which was above his monthly entitlement of 28-thousand housing.

In making a ruling Principal Resident Magistrate Obbister Musukwa says a prima facie case has been established in all the two counts.

Mr Musukwa has since set August 6, 2014 for the commencement of defence.

Prof Chirwa is jointly charged with Regina Mwale, the former Director of Finance at ZRL, where he was Chief Executive Officer.

Mrs. Mwale has promised to present 2 witnesses while Professor Chirwa will be the only witness in the two counts.
