Chisamba receives 2014/15 fertiliser
Chisamba, July 25, 2014,ZANIS- –CHISAMBA district has received 4, 550 by 50kg bags of D Compound fertilizer for the 2014/2015 farming season.
Speaking when he toured the sheds, Chisamba District Commissioner (DC) Ferdinand Chipindi commended the early distribution of fertilizer.
Mr Chipindi said the Patriotic Front government was a working government which was delivering on its promises.
He said it was the first time Chisamba district had received fertilizer early.
Mr Chipindi added that this was going to be a motivating factor for most farmers as Chisamba is an agricultural area.
“This is a miracle, Chisamba district has never received fertilizer this early, the farmers will be happy” said Chipindi.
He disclosed that the Ministry of Agriculture had in addition to the fertilizer received documentation such as Fertilizer Input Support Programme (FISP) form one which was evidence enough that input distribution to the farmers would be early.
The District Commissioner however appealed to the government through the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock to increase the number of packs allocated to the district.
He said the projected 13,648 packs were not going to be enough for the district as the number of farmers had increased.
He said there was a deficit of 8,352 bags of fertilizer and that if the farmers were not catered for there would be food insecurity at household level as most people in the area depend on agriculture for their livelihood.
