NKANA coach Zeddy Saileti says he would not be distracted by rumours surrounding his future at the club.
Saileti said in an interview yesterday that he was solely focused on ensuring that Nkana were ready for the remaining half of the MTN-FAZ Premier League season as well as the CAF 2014 Confederations Cup engagements.
There has been speculation in the past week that Saileti, who has been in charge at Nkana since Masauso Mwale died in a car accident on May 23, would be replaced by ex-Nkana coach and player Beston Chambeshi.
But Saileti said he was focused on drilling his side for the forthcoming games and that his future was a preserve of the club executive committee.
Saileti, who recently signed defender Amos Simwanza from Konkola Blades, said he was looking forward to adding firepower to his striking force and the midfield before the transfer window closes on July 21.
“I have heard those rumours but I will not comment on them because I am focused on the team getting ready for the resumption of the league this weekend,” he said.
Saileti has been in charge of eleven competitive games winning six, drawing two and losing three. Nkana are currently third on the log on 29 points, four points behind leaders Zanaco and second placed Zesco after fifteen games played.
Nkana takes on Green Eagles this weekend in the league before hosting Etoile du Sahel of Tunisia in the Confederation Cup group stage match next weekend needing a win to keep alive hopes of reaching the last four after managing two draws and a defeat in the opening three games.
He said the return of defender Billy Mwanza and midfielder Frank Chibuye was a huge boost ahead of the Eagles clash at Nkana Stadium this Saturday.
Meanwhile, Chambeshi has dismissed stories linking him with a return to Nkana saying he was happy at Blades.
Chambeshi, however, said he would not resist the temptation, should an offer come his way, to join Nkana as head coach.
“It’s nice when one’s name is being linked to teams like Nkana. You know they (Nkana) are a big team and any coach would like to lead them but at the moment I am Blades coach and therefore, those are just speculations. But if I am approached, I would consult widely,” he said.
