Action Aid Zambia hands over mothers shelter

Nakonde, July 14,2014,ZANIS…SHEM rural health center in Nakonde district has witnessed the commissioning of the first ever mother’s shelter in the district.

The shelter was built at a total cost of K10,000 by Action Aid Zambia,  a Non-Governmental Organisation ( NGO) working in about 124 countries in Africa to help reduce poverty levels in vulnerable communities.

And speaking during the handover ceremony, Action Aid country director Pamela Chisanga in a speech read on her behalf by District Manager Belinda Mautu said the organization was working with Government through the Ministry of health to help reduce Maternal deaths which were high in Nakonde district.

Ms. Chisanga said due to high maternal deaths, the mother’s shelter would  help expectant mothers in remote  areas to access medical treatment.

Meanwhile, District Women Chairperson Queen Nawakwi called on Women of Shem community to guard jealously the shelter built for them by Action Aid Zambia.

Ms Nawakwi also thanked Action Aid Zambia for supplementing Government efforts in its quest to provide quality health care for all.

And Mpande ward area councilor Goodson Sichimata said he was happy that the first ever mother’s shelter in the district had been built in his area.

Mr Sichimata said the Patriotic Front Government remains dedicated to providing quality health care for all.
