Six candidates successfully filled in their nominations for the Luampa and Namando Ward Local government by-elections in Luampa Constituency in the western province yesterday.

Among those who filled in their nominations for Luampa Ward were David Kahulu from the Patriotic Front (PF), David Njamba for the United Party for National Development (UPND) and Chipango Nyumbu  for United National Independence Party (UNIP).

The PF candidate Mr Kahulu has promised the electorate that he will work towards improving the roads and ensure that there is clean and safe water in the ward.

And UPND candidate Mr Njamba said he will deliver development to the people of Luampa if he is voted in as a Councilor.

Luampa Ward fell vacant after the death of MMD Councilor Mr Makawyanga Chinyemba.

Meanwhile, three candidates who filled in their nomination for Namando ward include Katupisha Yambwana of the PF, Mundenge Mwiya under the UPND and Muchima Christopher for the Alliance for Democracy and Development (ADD).

Namando Ward fell vacant after the death of PF councilor Shishau Muthala.

Returning officer Peter Mulenga declared the nominations for the six candidates valid.
