—More than 20 MMD party members have defected to the ruling Patriotic Front (PF) in Chilubi district of Northern Province.

PF district chairman, John Kasongo and other senior party officials welcomed 27 new members during a political party meeting held at Mwanakasabi Primary School grounds over the long weekend.

In his welcoming remarks Mr Kasongo urged the defectors to forget about their former party by working with the PF as the former ruling party has nothing to offer to the people of Zambia.

Mr Kasongo further told the new members not to be cheated by the opposition, adding that opposition parties have no future in today’s political arena.

And speaking at the same event, district party secretary, Obious Kalemba, urged old party members to embrace new members if the PF party is to be strengthened.

Meanwhile, one of the defectors, Mathews Kaluba, who spoke on behalf of his colleagues, explained that they have decided to join the PF because of the various developmental projects they have witnessed in the country since the ruling party ascended to power.

Mr Kaluba stated that Chilubi district is among many other districts where the ruling party has shown its determination in terms of uplifting the living standards of people in the country.

He further vowed that they will never return to the Movement for Multiparty Democracy because it failed to offer anything during the time it was in power.
