2)–5,349 Lundazi residents access ART

A total of 303 youths under the age of 15 years in Lundazi district are reported to be infected with HIV/AIDS and are currently receiving Anti Retroviral Treatment-ART.

ZANIS in Lundazi reports that the youths comprise 135 males and 168 females out of a total population of 5,349 people that are on ART in the district.

Chairperson of the Lundazi District AIDS Task Force Augustine Chileshe disclosed the statistics during a District Development Coordinating Committee quarterly meeting held recently.

Mr Chileshe said of those above 15 years of age, 2,067 are males and 2,979 are females.

Mr Chileshe further disclosed that during the 30th June 2014 Commemoration of World Voluntary and Counseling and Treatment [VCT] Day held at  Lumezi ZNS Camp, a total of 1,807 people were tested for HIV/AIDS out of which 328 tested positive and were immediately put on ART.

He also told the meeting that 1,569 males were circumcised during the second quarter of this year ranging between one and 50 years of age.

Mr. Chileshe said that a lot of awareness campaigns programs were undertaken by the Task Force because partner organizations such as the Catholic Home based Community, STEPS OVC and other NGOs involved in the fight against HIV/AIDS did not received funding from either government or donors.

Meanwhile,  the DAFT Chairperson disclosed that his Organization faces several challenges  such as erratic funding and supply of condoms, insufficient and in wrong language of  IEC Materials ,transport while some Faith Based Organizations have stopped implementing  HIV/AIDS activities.
