THE Matero Local Court has ordered a 34-year-old man of George Township to pay K3,000 as compensation for impregnating his girlfriend eleven years ago.
This is a case in which Augustine Kamwanshi, 62, also a resident of George Township sued Frederick Kalunga.
“Your honour, he admitted to having impregnated my daughter when we called him for discussions and we charged him K2,500 as compensation. We even signed the agreement,” he said.
Kamwanshi, a pastor at Jesus Power Alive Church told the court that 11years have passed and Kalunga has not paid a single amount from the charge.
He said Kalunga has been living with his daughter since the first pregnancy, adding that they currently have two children.
“What hurts me more is that he impregnated my daughter when she was 16 years old. He cut short my daughter’s education,” Kamwanshi said.
He said Kalunga has failed to pay the money despite attempts being made to make him do so.
Kamwanshi told the court that Kalunga started living with her daughter without paying dowry for her hand in marriage.
“I’m still very hurt about what he did to my daughter,” he said.
And Kalunga in his defence told senior court magistrates Petronella Kalyelye and Lewis Mumba that he paid money to Kamwanshi after impregnating the daughter.
“I sent my relatives to pay the money Kamwanshi’s family had charged me. I even paid money for dowry, the unfortunate thing is that there are no records to prove that I made the payments,” he said.
In passing judgement, the court ordered Kalunga to start paying effective this month end.
