ZESCO improves power supply to Southern province

—-Zesco has embarked on an ambitious project to improve service delivery in the southern part of the country.

Zesco spokesperson, Henry Kapata, says the utility company will be installing a new transmission line at cost of over K5.9m to reduce power outages in some affected towns in
Southern Province.

Mr Kapata said the new transmission line, once installed, will increase power supply and reduce load-shedding in affected towns which include Mazabuka, Monze, Pemba and Chikakanta districts.

He told ZANIS in an interview that currently the affected towns are being supplied from a sub-station in Kafue town and the line is operating in a continuous overloading condition which transfers power in excess of 58MVA instead of its design limit of 42MVA.

Mr Kapata said the line will increase the capacity from 42MVA to 109 MVA, saying the power supply in the affected towns will increase significantly.

He stated that the installation of the new transmission line will enable the 90MVA transformer capacity in Mazabuka to be fully utilized and that there will be increased access to electricity for new customers and investors.

Mr Kapata said the installation of the transmission line will take about seven weeks hence three power outages per week will be experienced in the affected areas.
