Married couples challenged to go for VCT

–Lundazi District Commissioner, Janet Palukani, has challenged married couples in the district to always go for Voluntary Counselling and Testing [VCT] in order for them to know their HIV/AIDS status and reduce new infections.

Ms Palukani said Lundazi community, including married couples, need to concentrate on preventing new infections if the district was to reduce the disease prevalence rate and record zero new infections.

ZANIS in Lundazi reports that Ms Palukani made the challenge during the commemoration of National Voluntary Counselling and Testing [VCT] Day whose theme was ‘’REACHING EVERYONE, EVERYWHERE WITH ANNUAL HIV CONSELLING AND TESTING SERVICES’’ held at Lumezi Zambia National Service (ZNS)  Camp yesterday.

And speaking earlier, Lundazi District Director of Health, Allani Chisenga,   commended people of chiefs Chitungulu, Mwanya and Kazembe of the valley area for maintaining and recording HIV/AIDS zero infections for the past two years of 2013 and 2014.

Dr Chisenga disclosed that people of the three chiefdoms have managed to maintain and record zero new infections of HIV/AIDS disease due to vigorous programs put up by his office such as strengthening of VCT, condom use, circumcision and abstinence.

Meanwhile, in a testimony given by a 50 year old man living with HIV/AIDS since 2000, Patson Nkhata of Kalimaso village in Chief Zumwanda’s area, appealed to government to increase food rations given to people living with HIV/AIDS to enhance their body immunity and prolong their lives.
