Chief Nzamane’s subject urged to work with government

Chipata, June 29,2014, ZANIS —  Eastern Province Permanent Secretary Dr Chileshe Mulenga has called for cooperation with Chief Nzamane’s subjects to speed up development  works in the area.

Dr Mulenga says that  since development  was demand driven , there was need for cooperation from the locals to participate fully in the development of their respective areas.

Dr Mulenga said this at an interactive meeting held with villagers at Vuze Primary School in Chief Nzamane’s area, yesterday.

Development should be evenly distributed regardless of locality but there is need for the communities to also actively get involved so that lives change for the better , he said.

And speaking at the same meeting, Assistant Secretary Benzu Chikuba has challenged parents to avoid marrying off girl children before the age of 17.

Ms Chikuba stated that marrying off girls before the age of 17 is defilement which attracts a penalty of more than 10 years for the perpetrators and parents will also be held accountable for failure to report such cases to relevant authorities.

She  noted that when a girl child is educated she will be able to look after the parents when they grow old.

Ms Chikuba said the people should take advantage of the Patriotic front government whose policies are pro- poor meaning the vulnerable where at the centre stage.

The community raised concerns of lack of boreholes, Schools, Rural Health Centres, and deplorable state of rural roads among other things.

Alex Miti appealed to government to release Constituency development Fund to enable the community construct a 1 x 3 classroom block at Vuze primary school as the school did not have enough classroom blocks.
