Zambia , China’s ‘jubilee’ bilateral relationship a great success – Yuanchao

 

Lusaka, June 20, 2014, ZANIS—Visiting Chinese Vice President Li Yuanchao has described Zambia and China’s 50 years of bilateral relationship as a great success.

And Home Affairs Minister Ngosa Simbyakyula says the construction of the Confucius Institute at the University of Zambia (UNZA ) Great East road is a true demonstration of the long term tradition of active collaboration between Zambia and China.

Mr. Yuanchao however says  the two countries must continue to strengthen their ties  through empowering young people who are the future generation.

He said the two countries must strive to establish academic and cultural centres where students from both countries can be able to learn and appreciate the cultures of both countries for mutual benefit.

ZANIS Reports that Mr. Yuanchao said this in Lusaka today at the ground breaking ceremony for the construction of the Confucius Institute for Chinese language courses at the University of Zambia (UNZA) great East Road Campus.

And Mr. Yuanchao has called on the contractor Jiangsu Nantong Construction Group to ensure that quality construction works are done.

He said it will be embarrassing for the contractor not to do a great work considering that the company bears the name of the province in south east China where he once served as secretary.

At the same function, Home Affairs Minister Ngosa Simbyakyula said the construction of the  Institute is a true demonstration of the long term tradition of active collaboration between Zambia and China.

Dr Simbyakula also said the construction of the institute is an important beacon and a promise of a sustainable friendship between the people of the two nations.

He said China’s continued aid to Zambia is visible through the massive construction of roads and infrastructures such as school, hospitals among others.

Earlier, UNZA Chancellor Dr Jacob Mwanza said the construction of the new institute will rekindle the drive of expanding the infrastructures at the country’s highest learning institution.

Dr Mwanza said the university has been facing numerous challenges to house the fast growing population of students at the institution.
