Social cash transfer scheme to start next week in kitwe

 

Kitwe, June 18^th, 2014, ZANIS —-  Government says it will start giving out the social cash transfer to beneficiaries on the Copperbelt in two weeks time.

 

Mr Mumba says the money for the programme has already been deposited in the banks adding that payments will be commenced in two weeks time.

 

He said the Social Cash Transfer programme (SCTP ) has helped many households to increase incomes in districts where the programme is initiated.

 

He disclosed this when a delegation of officers from the department of Social welfare, Community Development ,  Mother and Child Health department and the World Bank paid a courtesy call on Acting Kitwe District Commissioner Dr Chikafuna Banda in Kitwe today.

 

This was during  the delegation’s learning tour of the Social Cash transfer programme in the district.

 

And Acting Kitwe District Commissioner Dr Chikafuna Banda appealed to the ministry of Social Welfare to do everything possible to ensure that the SCTP becomes as success in Kitwe.

 

 

Dr Banda also urged the department to ensure that the funds for the programme is not abused.

 

The Social Cash transfer is poverty reduction programme under which selected vulnerable households are given cash to enable them meet their basic needs and engage in income generating business ventures.
