TBEA donates k 30, 000 to SOS village in Chipata

Chipata, June 17, 2014, ZANIS —  A  Chinese Company contracted to construct a power line in Chipata district has donated a cheque of K30, 000 and assorted goods worth over K32, 000 to the vulnerable at SOS village and Magwero schools for the Blind and deaf.

TBEA which was contracted to construct a 330KV line from Pensulo in chief Msoro’s area to Chipata west substation near Msekera Research station, made the donation this morning as a way of commemorating the Day of the African Child which falls under the theme ‘Towards a child friendly, quality, free and compulsory education for all children.”

Eastern Province Permanent Secretary Chileshe Mulenga observed that government recognizes the importance and necessity of safeguarding the Rights of children and has therefore put in place measures to protect them from all forms of harmful vices.

Speaking at the handover ceremony at SOS village, Dr Mulenga noted that government has initiated programmes that are tailored to develop the child physically, emotionally and psychologically.

He noted that children are a building block of any nation saying they need special attention and recognition at all levels of society and as such the current revised national child policy necessitated by the need to incorporate the new and emerging issues on board is in the best interest of the child’s development.

Dr Mulenga stated that government alone cannot meet all the challenges faced by children and that the move by TBEA to donate to the vulnerable was a step in the right direction.

And giving a vote of thanks, a representative of Magwero Schools for the Blind and the deaf, Joseph Chipeta noted that children at the two schools are usually marginalized not only by the community but also their parents.

Mr Chipeta who is the Head teacher at the school commended TBEA for the gesture towards the children who he said are disadvantaged by the nature of being disabled.

He disclosed that the school has a shortage of teachers, staff houses and general infrastructure that needs rehabilitation.
