Kawambwa DC Mpasa advises farmers to reserve produce for ‘ rainy day’

Kawambwa, June 12, 2014, ZANIS —-  Government has advised farmers Kawambwa District in Luapula province not to sell their maize at giveaway prices.

District Commissioner Ivo Mpasa says  Farmers  in the area should avoid being lured by money to sell their maize cheaply to avoid starvation in the end.

Mr Mpasa says his office is saddened that some of the farmers in the area even advertise that their produce is up for grabs before harvest saying this in turn contributes to hunger at their homes.

The DC said this in an interview with ZANIS at his office in Kawambwa District, today.

He noted that farmers should have self-discipline and patience by selling their maize to the Food Reserve Agency (FRA).

Mr Mpasa adds that food reserve should start at home as this will help reduce hunger at households.

He also says food security can only be achieved if farmers sell their maize to the government and learn to save at household level for home consumption
