Senior Women Chipolopolo coach Charles Bwale says he is very grateful to the many soccer fans that turned up at Nkoloma stadium and rallied behind his girls through out the match on Sunday.Bwale says their support was directly linked to the making of history by the Women team that qualified to the Africa Cup for the very first time.

“There was a time when our performance somewhat hit a low during the match ,ironically that’s the time our fans sung loudest and managed to rekindle our hopes and strength” said the former Nkana and Mufulira Wanderers defender.

On Sunday the Senior Women Chipolopolo team made history by qualifying for the first time to the Africa Women Championships scheduled for 11-25 October 2014 in Namibia.

Helen Mubanga scored a goal in the 37th to seal Zambia’s historical run.Two weeks ago Zimbabwe lost in front of their fans by a similar scoreline, Mubanga was also the scorer in this game in Harare.

Seven teams have emerged from the qualifiers to join hosts Namibia for the final tournament, also a qualifier for the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Canada next year.

Qualified teams: Namibia (host), Cote d’Ivoire, Nigeria, South Africa, Algeria, Ghana, Cameroon, Zambia.
