Hundreds of people have been rounded up in a joint pre-dawn raid by the Police and Drug Enforcement Commission on Lusaka’s notorious Chibolya compound.

The operation conducted last night around 02:00 hours has seen large quantities of illicit drugs recovered.

Chibolya compound considered a no go area for law enforcement officers is notorious for illicit drugs trade.

Both Police Spokesperson Rea Hamoonga and DEC Public Relations officer Theresa Katongo have confirmed the development in separate interviews with QFM News.

Mr Hamoonga says a joint comprehensive statement on the raid will be made available once everything has been compiled together.

Mr Hamoonga says those arrested in the raid were taken to Edwin Imboela Stadium for screening, without disclosing the actual number of those that have been rounded up.

He says Police have been concerned with the illegal activities that have been taking place in Chibolya and were looking for an opportune time to conduct the raid.

Mr Hamoonga adds that Police will continue with operations in Chibolya until sanity is restored.

And Drug Enforcement Commission Spokesperson Theresa Katongo says different kinds of drugs have been seized following the operation in Chibolya.

Ms Katongo says the latest operation in Chibolyo is one of the many planned joint operations with the Zambia Police.

She adds that similar operations are planned in Ndola and Livingstone targeting Sinya and Malota compounds respectively.
