A 50-year-old woman of Nchelenge district in Luapula province has died of suspected poisoning.

Joyce Mulenga of house number 644, new Kalolo in Ndola, died on Monday around 06:00 hours in Kabulo village in Chief Kambwali’s chiefdom in Nchelenge district.

Disclosing the incident to ZANIS in Mansa, Luapula Province Police Commissioner, Malcolm Mulenga, said the deceased is suspected to have been poisoned by a named witchdoctor who she had approached for medication and gave her the concoction.

He said no arrests have been made so far while the body of the deceased is lying at St Paul’s Mission Hospital mortuary in Nchelenge awaiting a post-mortem.

In another development, police in Nchelenge are holding a 38-year- old man from the Office of the President for causing death by dangerous driving.

Mathews Mubita of house number 38 Lobby Compound was arrested after he hit an eight-year-old girl of Diason Village also of Chief Kambwali’s chiefdom.

Mr Mulenga said the girl was crossing the road when the vehicle registration number ALB 9900 hit her and died spot.

The body of deceased is laying at St Paul’s Mission Hospital mortuary awaiting post-mortem.
