Property worth thousands of kwacha has been burnt to ashes in an infernal that swept through one of the classes at Chibale Primary School in Sioma district.

The one-by-three classroom block was razed on April 29, 2014 and the school lost property worth K7, 500.

School head teacher, Kalenga Mungamba, confirmed the incident to ZANIS in Sioma.

Mr Mungamba said the school is made of poles mud and is grass-thatched and as such all the property that was in the classroom block was lost in the fire.

He said the fire was started by an individual who has since been apprehended by police and is in custody at Nangweshi Police Post

Mr Mungamba added that the school program for the next term will be
affected as a total of 321pupils will have no place to learn from, adding that the school may not open at the intended time.
He added that the teachers were now living in fear after the incident as they are uncertain of their safety.
Mr Mungamba has since appealed to government to come to the aid of the school through the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU).

He further appealed to the local authority to consider allocating some funds to the school through the Constituency Development Funds (CDF) to rebuild the structure before the school reopens.
