Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) president Edith Nawakwi says Police are failing to protect the opposition from attacks by ruling party cadres.

Ms Nawakwi says it is for this reason that opposition political parties such as the United Party for National Development (UPND) are resorting to desperate measures of arming their members.

Speaking during a media briefing in Lusaka April 17th, Ms Nawakwi says there is need for all politicians to avoid being emotional when talking to each other.

Ms. Nawakwi says she has seen it fit to speak out as a mother so that peace and love take centre-stage in the political arena.

The FDD leader notes that the UPND must have made the statement to arm its cadres out of anger for the Police’s failure to protect them.

And Ms Nawakwi has observed that several factors have given rise to the culture of political violence such the collective failure to embrace democracy in its full sense and the infiltration of the Police service by alleged Patriotic Front cadres who are ill trained.

The FDD leader has since appealed to all political leaders to use Easter as period of forgiveness and reconciliation.
