Katema advises Zambian media

Government has advised media houses to operate within the provisions of their licenses.

Information Minister Joseph Katema says any media house that ventures off the provisions of its license will be taken to task.

Dr Katema says although government wants media houses to operate without interference, they should be responsible and not to abuse the freedom.

He said this in Lusaka on Friday when he toured a Muvi TV a private Television station in Lusaka.

Dr Katema says government wants media houses to have editorial independence.

He however noted that the media should be patriotic to developmental needs of the country.

And MUVI TV General Manager, Coster Mwansa says government can save over one hundred million US dollars if it adopts satellite mode to digital migration.

Meanwhile, Information Permanent Secretary, Bert Mushala has advised private media institution to work with government towards digital migration.

Broadcasting institutions world over are expended to migrate from analogue to digital transmission systems in the next 14 months.
