Govt procures medical equipment

Kitwe, Apr 8/14 ZANIS——Health Deputy Minister, Chitalu Chilufya, says government is procuring medical equipment for health institutions across the country to improve efficiency in the delivery of health services to the people.

Dr Chilufya added that the purchasing of medical equipment is also meant to reduce referral costs abroad.

The Deputy Minister said this when he visited Kitwe Central Hospital on the Copperbelt Province.

Dr Chilufya noted that government is determined to re-upgrade the operations of the hospital to a status of a third level as it was accredited during its commissioning.

He said apart from the CT Scan and other equipment, more equipment will be procured in order to expand o the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the hospital.

The Deputy Minister noted that health institutions at district level are being strengthened in order for them to be handling simple cases such as malaria and others in a bid to decongest third level hospitals and enable them concentrate on specialised cases.

He has further emphasised on the need to ensure that the medical equipment that is being delivered in health institutions to be installed in the shortest possible time to allow efficiency in health delivery system.
