Chisala urges Luangwa women to diversify into other ventures.

Gender and Child Development Deputy Minister, Obvius Chisala has called on women’s clubs to diversify into other fund raising ventures if they are to be empowered economically and socially.

Speaking when he addressed several women’s clubs in Luangwa District recently, Mr. Chisala said government appreciates the role that women play in national development hence coming up with a number of initiatives of empowering them.

He called on the women clubs to diversify from income generating venture to many others so that they widen their revenue base.

Mr. Chisala was responding to women who told him that they were facing a number of have embarked on goat and chicken rearing in their clubs but found a lot of challenges when it came to diseases.

The Gender and Child Development Deputy Minister said government was aware of the challenges that women go through hence the support that his ministry and other ministries were giving to them.

He called on the clubs to use the financial and material support they were receiving from government to good use and achieve the intended purpose of poverty alleviation in households.

Mr. Chisala also urged women to support each other if they are to contribute positively to national development.

He said women have been known for back biting and bickering but it was high time that they change and learn to support each other.

And Luangwa District Commissioner, Eunie Mumba thanked government for the support it was rendering to women’s clubs in the area.

Mr. Mumba said the financial and material support that the women have received has enabled a lot of them to be self sustaining.
