NGO in Lukulu calls for young people to desist from early marriages

A Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) in Lukulu District of Western has called on young people to concentrate on life skills which will help them earn their living.

Lukulu District Destiny for Zambian Youth Coordinator Mwiya Mwiya said young people can engage themselves in various activities in life than engaging themselves in bad habits.

Mr. Mwiya said currently the organization is conducting sensitization programs against early marriages, HIV /AIDS among others.

In an interview with ZANIS in Lukulu on April 2nd Mr. Mwiya said the programme is targeted at adolescent girls and boys in the schools within Lukulu.

He named the schools to be targeted in the first quarter as Mulongo, Lukulu, Namayula, Lubosi, St Columbus and Pheli o shea Secondary School.

Mr. Mwiya pointed out the need for young people to concentrate on improving their livelihood through skills training.

He said his organization is teaching young people on issues to do with behaviour change saying by so doing the young people can be responsible leaders.

He further disclosed that the organization is also carrying out other programmes on self-employment and unwanted pregnancies for the young people in the district.

Mr Mwiya said the goal of the organization is to provide solutions through good leadership skills and to reduce cases of HIV /AIDS in the district.
