The Jesuit Centre for Theological Reflections (JCTR) has urged government to urgently deal with the escalating prices of Mealie meal in the country.

In an interview with QFM News, JCTR Social Economic Development Programme Officer, Bwalya Musoma says the continued escalating Mealie meal prices are affecting the lives of the poor who are the majority.

Mrs Musoma says the rise in the price of the staple food is also posing a threat to the health of people as those who cannot afford a bag of mealie meal are resorting to other foods.

She adds that government should first deal with the gaps in the production of Mealie meal and also find better ways of managing the storage of maize.

Mrs Musoma has further requested government to stabilize the fuel prices which have a direct impact on the price of Mealie meal.
