Poor yield worries traditional leadership in Gwembe District

Gwembe, March 26, ZANIS–A traditional leader in Gwembe district has expressed concern over the anticipated crop failure due to dry spells that the area has experienced.

Joseph Chilundu, a senior headman for Chibayi Village in Jongola says that the drought had badly had resulted in poor yields as rains stopped  before  maturity of crops.

He said most fields were drying up and feared that even if rains came now, the chances of survival for the crops such as maize and grounds were very slim.

Senior headman Chibayi, who is also Area Development Committee chairperson, explained that the area started receiving normal rains
after December 10th last year.
