POLICE in Kasama are investigating two cases of aggravated robbery that happened in Mbala and Mpulungu districts in Northern Province this week.

ZANIS reports that Northern Province police commissioner Charity Katanga confirmed the incidences in an interview, in Kasama District today.

Ms. Katanga  says in Mpulungu, three men armed with sticks attacked and robbed a  John Siulapwa,  aged 53 years, in Chituta village of Isoko area.

She said Siulapwa was robbed of K20, 000 cash which he carried on him to buy beans.

She said the attack happened in broad day light at around 10:00hrs on Tuesday.

She added that Siulapwa in the attack sustained a fractured left arm and a cut on his left palm and has since been admitted to Mpulungu Health Center.

Ms Katanga said Siulapwa has identified one of the three assailants who managed to run away after the attack.

And in Mbala District, three unknown men also attacked and robbed Joseph Sichilima, 38, at Katito village in chief Tafuna’s village.

The Northern Province police commissioner said the incident was around 21:00hrs, when the assailants who were armed with machetes managed to get away with K6, 000 cash, a phone and an inventor.

Ms Katanga said Sichilima sustained cuts on the forehead, left arm and chest in the attack and has since been admitted to Mbala General Hospital.

She said in his defence, Sichilima also axed one assailant to death and his body is in the Mbala General Hospital mortuary.

‘We are investigating these two cases and are also trying to establish if the attacks are linked considering that the proximity of Mpulungu and Mbala is near,” said Ms Katanga.
