Man in court for impersonating an officer from the Vice-President’s office

A TWENTY-SEVEN-YEAR-OLD man in Lusaka yesterday appeared in a magistrate’s court for impersonating an officer from the Vice-President’s office and swindling people out of more than K4, 000.
Dennis Simakanda of Kamwala Township is facing one count of impersonating a public officer and six counts of obtaining money by false pretences.
It is alleged that in the first count, Simakanda, between January 1, 2012 and February 13, 2014 in Lusaka, did falsely represent himself to Alice Banda as a person employed in public service namely, Land Resettlement Scheme under the office of the Vice-President when in fact not.
It is alleged in count two that Simakanda, on unknown dates but between January 1, 2012 and February 13, 2014, with intent to defraud did obtain K1, 450  cash from Alice Banda by falsely pretending that he would secure a farm for her when in fact not.
He is, in the third count, alleged to have on the same dates, with intent to deceive and defraud obtained K500 cash from Tabita Chongwe by falsely pretending that he would secure a farm for her when in fact not.
In count seven, it is alleged that Simakanda on the same dates in Lusaka with intent to deceive or defraud did obtain K900 cash from Angela Banda by falsely pretending that he would secure a farm for her when in fact not.
chief resident magistrate Joshua Banda has since allocated the matter to magistrate Mwaka Mikalile.
