TP Mazembe president Moise Katumbi is baffled as to why Given Singuluma is overlooked by Zambia despite being a hit at the DR Congo giants.

Singuluma has not featured for Zambia since he was cut from the final team that later won 2012 Africa Cup title in Gabon.

The attacking midfielder last Sunday scored Mazembes’ final goal in the Lubumbashi clubs’ 3-0 home win over Astres Douala of Cameroon in a 2014 CAF Champions League first round, final leg tie to see them advance 4-1 on aggregate.

“I always ask myself why they always leave Given Singuluma out of the Zambia national team,” Katumbi said.

“I think the best player for Zambia in the midfield is Singuluma and nobody else.”

Singuluma is a highly revered figured at Mazembe since joining them in 2009 and inspired them to back-to-back victories in the 2009 and 2010 CAF Champions League and CAF Super Cup.

“If Mazembe is winning and surviving it is because of Given,” Katumbi said.

  1. Singuluma was top scorer at the iaugural CHAN 2009,but surprisingly was left out of the team that played in the 2010 World Cup qualifier, first group stage match against Egypt in Cairo. It was the beginning of our failure to qualify in a game that saw a blunt striking force which otherwise Singuluma would have sharpened.Rennard was new to the team that was openly controlled in all departments, even team selection,at the new Generals at the FAZ.That was the beginning of the going into oblivion of the 5 goal hero,Given.
