3 ARRESTED OVER K200,000 COUNTERFEIT NOTES

THE Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) has arrested three business executives of Lusaka for being in possession of more than K200,000 counterfeit notes.
DEC public relations officer Theresa Katongo said in a statement yesterday that Mulenga Simwanza, 45, and Friday Muma, 36, both business executives of Garden Township in Lusaka, were arrested and jointly charged with Mercy Simasiku, 44, a business executive of Plot 30302 Shantumbu Road in Chilenje residential area for being in possession of K294,100 counterfeit notes.
The three were apprehended at Mike’s Car Wash on Kafue Road.
Ms Katongo said DEC had also arrested a managing director and a director of Best Brands Zambia Limited for issuance of cheques on an insufficiently funded account.
“Dyson Mweene, 44, a managing director of Best Brands Limited residing at plot number 609/0/30 Chudleigh in Lusaka has been arrested and jointly charged with Shupi Kayela Mweene, 41, a director of the same company and also of the same abode for issuance of cheques on an insufficiently funded account contrary to the Laws of Zambia,” she said.
Particulars of the offence are that Mweene and Shupi, in their capacity as directors of Best Brands, between August 1 and December 31, last year, with other unknown people issued three cheques on different dates amounting to K231,000 on an insufficiently funded account to Nalumba Investments of Lusaka with intent to defraud.
All the suspects would appear in court soon.
