Airtel-Zambia has today handed over the first house and other prizes in the ongoing ‘Wina Big’ promotion which the mobile service provider has been running for the last two months.

Local Government and Housing Minister Emerine Kabanshi handed over a three bedroomed house valued at K500,000 to Lovemore Mulenga, a Matero resident who has become the first winner of one of the three houses that are up for grabs in the ‘Wina Big’ promotion.

Speaking at the handover ceremony at Northgate Gadders in Lusaka today, Ms. Kabanshi praised Airtel for supplementing the efforts of government in the provision of decent housing to Zambians.

She explained that her government attaches great importance to the housing sector noting that decent housing is a basic human need through which other basic needs such as access to clean and safe drinking water and adequate sanitation could be promoted.

The Minister stated that Zambia, like many other countries in the world, is facing critical shortage of adequate housing hence the need for the private sector and government
to act together to address the shortage.

And Airtel Managing Director Charity Lumpa stated that the diversity of winners in terms of geographical location is an indication of how well the company’s towers have contributed in not only providing quality communication solutions but also touching the lives of its
customers.

She stated that the promotion is aligned to the country’s golden jubilee in which the company has resolved to give back to its esteemed customers for the support and loyalty to Airtel since inception.

And in his emotional acceptance speech, Lovemore Mulenga, described his prize as a prophetic one claiming that his Pastor revealed to him way back before winning it.

Mr. Mulenga, a self employed technician of Matero township praised Airtel for the prize and called on Zambians to embrace the spirit of giving if they are to receive from others like he has done.

At the same function, Airtel Managing Director presented two cheques worth K10, 000 each to winners of the education sponsorship and one winner of a trip to Brazil.

So far Airtel has paid out K28,000 in cash prizes using Airtel money to 280 customers and K100,000 education support to 10 customers while five customers have been awarded a fully paid for trip to Brazil in July this year.

The Wina Big promotion is expected to come to an end on 27th April, 2014.
