The Southern African Center for the Constructive Resolution (SACCORD) has appealed to Government to call a quick round table dialogue with the Bemba Royal Establishment (BRE) to resolve the standoff on the installation of the new paramount Chief Chitimukulu.

SACCORD Executive Director, Boniface Cheembe, has told QFM News that there is need for dialogue meeting between government and BRE to discuss the merits and demerits of individuals who have been chosen.

Mr. Cheembe says there is also need to quickly decide on who should be the next paramount Chitimukulu by following the right procedure and not the use political influence.

He adds that it will be unfortunate to have a preferred candidate imposed on the Bemba speaking people without the approval of Bashilubemba.

The Bemba Royal Establishment has accused President Michael Sata of imposing Chief Chewe of Chinsali District as Paramount Chief Chitimukulu.

  1. The major problem that both the people and politicians have is giving the chiefs too much power & respect.Chiefdoms should exist ceremoniously & not factual.Otherwise one day we will wake up to a rude shock to find the country divided into chiefdoms. This is what is,as as a matter of fact, giving some tribes the impetus to want to be independent from Zambia.Infact, we should all work towards ceasing this divisions and instead promote “one Zambia one nation”.The rich financial aspect that politicians have attached to chiefdom is a time boom that is yet to bring cuors .Why do we stick to barbarism in the name of chiefs being custodians of culture & tradition when in fact they aren’t?If anything they are custodians of inconstancy(sudden change of their political inclinations for personnel financial benefit),immoral(marrying many wives and too young girls),corrupt(selling land at cheap price to foreign investors. prompting the govt. to burn the sell),disobedient to the law(willingness to break the constitution by supporting the third term for Chiluba).People let’s strip them of what is making chiefdom a lucrative position if rely we want to stop these disputes.
